What is a periodontist?
A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of gum diseases and in the surgical placement of dental implants. Periodontists can also perform esthetic procedures to improve smiles by altering gingival contours. Periodontists receive an additional three years of training beyond dental school to become experts in these areas.
There are many reasons why your dentist may have referred you to our office. Some of the more common reasons are:
- Concern about the health and/or appearance of your gums
- Questions about the prognosis for a tooth
- Interest in dental implants
- Esthetic concerns
- Evaluation for crown lengthening before placement of a crown or bridge
Whatever your needs may be, we are prepared to provide you with quality care. At your initial examination appointment, we will explain which treatments would benefit you most and answer any questions you may have.
