Meet Dr. Rinehart

Dr. Sarah Rinehart was born and raised in Marshalltown, Iowa and has lived in Iowa City since 2006. Prior to dental school, she attended the University of Iowa College of Engineering where she earned her BSE in Biomedical Engineering, graduating with honors and high distinction. Dr. Rinehart then attended the University of Iowa College of Dentistry where she received her DDS in 2014, followed by her Certificate in Periodontics and a Master’s of Science in Oral Science. While in dental school, Dr. Rinehart received many awards including the Dean’s Leadership Award, the Greenawalt Award for excellence in Periodontics, the Minger Award for excellence in Prosthodontics, the Academy of Osseointegration Award, and the American Academy of Periodontology Student Award. She also received Dean’s academic recognition each year of dental school and was elected for induction into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, National Honorary Dental Society. During residency Dr. Rinehart was the recipient of the Iowa Society of Periodontology Postdoctoral Award for her clinical research. She was also selected as a finalist for the esteemed American Academy of Periodontology Foundation Kramer Scholar Award for Excellence in 2017.

Dr. Rinehart has completed the process of board certification and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. She is also a member of multiple local and national professional organizations including the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Periodontology, the Midwest Society of Periodontology, and the Johnson County Dental Society. She has previously served on the leadership board for the Johnson County Dental Society. Dr. Rinehart also serves as an adjunct faculty for the Department of Periodontics at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry.

Dr. Rinehart is committed to providing quality care and truly enjoys the relationships she builds with her patients. Her practice covers the entire scope of periodontal therapy including: the treatment of gum disease, cosmetic periodontal plastic procedures, bone and gum grafting, dental implant surgery, laser therapy, and IV sedation.

When not in the office, Dr. Rinehart enjoys spending her free time with her husband (Matt), their sons (Isaac and Aiden), and their dog (Mia). They enjoy exploring all that Eastern Iowa has to offer and discovering local restaurants and markets. She is an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and enjoys attending football and basketball games. Dr. Rinehart also enjoys yoga, reading, and any activity that allows her to be outdoors or with her family and friends.
